Eco-Friendly Alternatives
Biodegradable Tableware
The obtained molded pulp tableware exhibited exceptional performance characteristics, including full biodegradability, excellent water and oil resistance, superior mechanical strength, low carbon emission, high food safety, and low cost, in addition to excellent processability and scalability, and thus represents a potential replacement for current plastic tableware for food packaging.
Fire-retardant Nanocellulose Aerogel
The thermal conductivity of our aerogel reached 28.4 mW m-1K-1, which is only marginally lower than that of the commercially available expanded polystyrene foam (thermal conductivity = 30–40 mW m-1 K-1), indicating the aerogel’s superior thermal insulation property. In addition, the vertical combustion level of the aerogel was as high as 5VA, demonstrating the superior fire resistance.
Magnetic Wood
By eliminating lignin and then performing an inorganic mineralization process, magnetic wood with an optical brown look and outstanding EMI shielding performance was created. The unusual structure of natural wood inspired this method.
All Nature Flow Batteries
Flow batteries are the primary solution for achieving sophisticated and high-performance grid storage. After extensive research, all components of a flow battery, including the electrodes (well-aligned wood), proton-selective membrane (bacterial cellulose, cellulose nanocrystals), and electrolyte (indigo carmine, lignosulfate), can be made from sustainable biomass materials.
